A CARVED BOXWOOD KNIFE SHEATH
NORTHERN NETHERLANDISH, LATE 16TH CENTURY
The front finely carved with eight scenes, to the left are depicted scenes from the life of Moses: The brazen serpent, the gathering of manna, the Isrealites worship a golden calf and Moses receives the tablets of law.
The right side depicts scenes from the life of Christ: the Crucifixion, the ressurection, the journy to and supper at Emmaus and the Ascension. The back carved with grotesques and a coat of arms
