Lot Essay

Hendrik Frederik Jansen started his company in Amsterdam in 1840 as an upholsterer. From the 1870's onwards his production enlarged and in 1877 he also became a manufacturer of furniture, taking over a smaller firm named Strooband and Brocx. At that time the factory was equiped with a steam-engine and employed more than thirty craftsmen.
The firm amongst others decorated the Salon of Queen Emma at the Soestdijk Palace.
