Lot Essay

Probably an unused illustration for Thomas Say's American Entomology published by the Philadelphia (Peale's) Museum in 1824/25 by Samuel Augustus Mitchell. Titian Peale drew plate 17 of Papilio Argynnis or Diana butterfly which was engraved by James Barton Longacre.
