Lot Essay

Goodwin enjoyed strolling along the coastline of Devon and Cornwall and would make sketches of atmospheric skylines and wrecked sailing ships. The sailing ship, increasingly rare in the 1900s, was the object of some nostalgia for Goodwin and he occasionally drew historical compositions around them.
