Lot Essay

De Nooteboome Uytkijk was built in 1774. It was originally designed as a warehouse, but already in 1778 it was rebuild to a court. This was a small living community for elderly and poor people, and can be regarded as an early form old people's care. The oldest and most famously known court in Amsterdam is the 'Begijnhof'. The court was completely restored in 1974 and reduced to five apartments.
