A PAIR OF IMPORTANT DANISH SILVER SOUP-TUREENS, LINERS, COVERS AND STANDS
MARK OF MICHELSEN, COPENHAGEN, 1892
Each oval stand with gadrooned border, chased with acanthus leaves, diaper work and scroll motif, the four handles realistically formed as serpents, the centre engraved with an inscription; each oval tureen, on openwork scroll supports with central floral finial beneath, part-fluted and with chased flower and foliage band, with two lion's mask drop ring handles, with plain liners; the partly fluted covers with detachable finial formed as a putto with a basket of fruit, fully marked
the stands 24 in. (61 cm.) long

Presented to King George I and Queen Olga of the Hellenes on the occasion of their Silver Wedding by his mother and father and his siblings and their spouses; King Christian IX of Denmark (1818-1906), his wife Queen Louisa of Denmark (1817-1898) and their second daughter children Tzarina Maria Feodorovna of Russia (1847-1928) and her husband Tzar Alexander III of Russia (1845-1894), their eldest daughter Alexandra, Princess of Wales, later Queen Alexandra of Great Britain and Ireland, Empress of India (1844-1925) and her husband Prince Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII of Great Britain, Ireland and Emperor of India (1841-1910); their eldest son Crown Prince Frederick, later King Frederick VIII of Denmark (1843-1912) and his wife Crown Princess Louisa of Sweden, later Queen of Denmark (1851-1926); their daughter Princess Thyra of Denmark, Duchess of Cumberland and Teviotdale (1853-1933) and her husband Crown Prince Ernest Augustus II, 3rd Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale (1845-1923) and their son Prince Valdemar of Denmark (1858-1939) and his wife Princess Marie de Orleáns-Bourbon (1865-1909).
