A DANISH SILVER CANDLESTICK
MARK OF JACOB S. PRAHL, COPENHAGEN, 1880
In the Nordic style, with baluster knopped stem cast and chased with scrolls and knotwork, the base mounted on four lion's paw feet, with two helmeted figures and two circular cartouches, one with a parrot, the other with 'CR' monogram below a Danish Royal Crown, the stem rising to a knop with applied winged beasts, beaded socket, marked on feet
17 in. (44 cm.) high
42 oz. (1,320 gr.)
The monogram is that of King Christian IX of Denmark (1818-1906).
Provenance
King Christian IX of Denmark (1818-1906) and then by descent to his second son
King George I of the Hellenes, Prince of Denmark (1845-1913).
