Lot Essay

Born in London, Lewis John Wood was a landscape and architectural painter in both oil and watercolour, and a lithographer. He exhibited from 1831, and from 1836 mainly painted scenes of northern France and Belgium. His early work was much influenced by the work of Thomas Shotter Boys.
