Lot Essay
Evelyn De Morgan was married to William De Morgan (1839-1917) the experimental ceramicist and life-long friend of William Morris (1834-1896). Evelyn studied at the Slade School and was greatly influenced by her uncle John Roddam Spencer Stanhope (1829-1908). The couple became key figures in the Arts and Crafts movement.
