Lot Essay

Godinton Park and its surrounding land is a unique record of a Kentish house that was in continuous succession for four centuries until 1895. The 14th Century Great Hall seen in the present watercolour displays some of the prized wood carving for which Godinton is so well known. The carving is thought to be Flemish in origin and bears the date 1574. The Great Hall served as a picture gallery of family and patrons of the Tokes family.
