Lot Essay

Pandora is seen opening the box out of which flew all the evils that have beset mankind in punishment for the theft of fire from the gods by Prometheus. The subject was treated in a well-known composition by D.G. Rossetti, a version of which has twice been offered in these Rooms in recent years.
