Unsportsmanlike tactics of a competitor at a recent fishing tournament on Hampstead Ponds

A black and white artist specialising in illustration, Heath Robinson began as a conventional book illustrator, but is perhaps best known for his passion for mad machinery, developed during the First World War. These proved the visual counterparts for Lewis Carroll's prose as they too had a kind of perverse logic. As a result of this Heath Robinson has been taken into the language as a reference to scatter-brained improvisation.
