A Japanese Arita blue and white dish, late 17th century
with a central medallion enclosing a pair of swooping birds above another perched on rockwork beside floral sprays, encircled by panels enlcosing tassels alternating with floral sprays, precious objects and a leaf, the undersides with foliate sprigs -- 14½in. (36.8cm.) diam.; and a blue and white circular tray, the centre painted with a character encircled by petal panels enclosing brocade designs, the straight rim with a classic scroll, the sides with floral sprays, 19th century -- 16in. (40.6cm.) diam. (2)
