Lot Essay

The original life size 'Nordic Man' is in the Field Museum, Chicago. In 1929 the museum commissioned Hoffman to create figures representing the races of man. Hoffman, who was briefly a student of Rodin, selected Alexis Rudier to be the principle foundry for the Field Museum project. The pose of 'Nordic Man' echoes Rodin's 'The Age of Bronze'.

This 1/3 life size version was cast in an edition of four.
