Second edition (the first appeared ten years earlier) of Ryff's culinary receipts with diets for the sick, both in body and mind, listing all sorts of meat, fish, fowl and vegetables and beverages including wine and herbal infusions and decoctions. Later editions included a tract on the plague with a woodcut of a bloodletting man. The author, apprenticed to an apothecary in Güstrow, removed to Strassburg where he was appointed municipal physician and wrote books on distilling, surgery and anatomy - he was the author of the first German anatomy. His books were popular and widely dispersed and much of his work is original and deserving of merit. Weiss 3300 (describing the first edition); Bitting p.412; Durling 4027.
