Lot Essay

Oribe writes: "I looked at two tea bowls and want to talk about them when you visit tomorrow. I'm very busy writing other letters, and cannot explain further just now."

The identity of Shimotsuma, a member of the military aristocracy, is based on the title Hoin by which he is addressed in the letter. There were only two members of the Shimotsuma family in the late 16th century who received the title. The other was Yoriaki's grandfather, Yoriyoshi.
