Lot Essay

Emperor Go-Hanazono was the son of Prince Fushimi no miya and ruled as the 102nd emperor of Japan. He was talented as a poet and musician. An anthology of poems, Go-Hanazonoin shu, and poem singing book, Go-Hanazonoin on dokugin hyakuin, survive from his hand.

The winter poem reads:

Katsuraki no yama niwa fuyu ya kuresaran
Yuki o sonomama mine no shirakumo
