A Gray Schist Figure of Maitreya
Gandhara, 2nd/3rd century
Very finely and crisply carved wearing long flowing robes elegantly draped across his shoulder, necklaces, a torque with lion head pendants, and armlets, one concealed by the drapery, his face with a benign expression, with moustache and acquiline nose, surmounted by wavy hair tied in the characteristic loop, backed by a round nimbus with leaf border interspersed with flowerheads, the surface with a fine polish
