A Chinese black and red tixi lacquer stem cup, 16th century
with rounded sides rising to a stepped flared rim, supported on a tall spreading foot with a domed base, the exterior carved on the sides through layers of well-defined black and red lacquer with ruyi scrolls, the stem with a triangular blade pattern above the foot with lingzhi fungus scrolls, the interior metal lined, Japanese wood box and cover -- 3 5/8in. (9.2cm.) diam.
