Lot Essay

These elegant wall lights, prominently featuring a sunflower, can be compared to a pair of wall lights attributed to the famous rococo bronzier Jacques Caffiéri, also featuring a sunflower, sold from the collection of Karl Lagerfeld, Christie's, Monaco, 28-29 April 2000, lot 64.

It is interesting to note in a 1747 inventory of Caffiéri's stock a mention of '...une grande paire de bras à deux branches désigné par les bras à soleil parcequ'il y a des soleils qui en font les ornents'.
