Depicting a young naked woman lying on a chaise longue and lifting a dog on her right foot, on an integrally-cast oval base and a further molded white marble plinth, inscribed 'Clodion'

Lot Essay

This model is after the iconic painting by Jean-Honoré Fragonard of c. 1770, known as la Gimblette, of which several oil versions exist, as well as many copies inspired by the delicate sensuality of this famous but intimate late rococo scene.
