Further details
One of the most mysterious and fascinating artists of the Russian immigration, Kalmakov created a series of paintings exposing dark and often forbidden subjects. His canvases exhibit a rich profusion of allegorical images espressing repressed eroticism, narcissism and complex religious concepts. The current painting was apparently used as an opening image in the Kenneth Anger film 'Invocation of My Demon Brother' (1969) and also seen in his 'Lucifer Rising' (1972).
