Further details
Until recent years, it had been thought that this service was made for the Coronation of Alexander II, see N. Wolf The Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, 1906, plates 344-346. It was only recently that research determined the service was in fact produced for the Coronation of Nicholas I.
Another plate from this service was sold in these rooms April 20, 2001, lot 24.
