Lot Essay

In 1926 the Crown Prince of Sweden, Gustav Adolf, and his wife Louise made a journey to the United States, the main purpose being to take part in the dedication of the John Ericsson memorial in Washington, D.C. on May 29th. Following the ceremony, the Crown Prince and his delegation, six in total, traveled across the country and stopped at the Grand Canyon before concluding their trip in San Francisco on August 4th. The present work was acquired during this stop at the Grand Canyon by Fritz Henriksson (1872-1941), a member of the Prince's delegation and head of the Press bureau at the Department of Foreign Affairs. The watercolor later hung in Mr. Henriksson's home outside of Stockholm, Sweden and has remained in the family's collection until present.
