Lot Essay

Audemars Piguet created their first wristwatch with minute repeater in 1907 for the famed American industrialist John Schaeffer, who had the watch personalized with the letters of his name as the numerals. His desired shape for the case was to be of the cushion-form. The present watch represents Audemars Piguet's reinvention of this original and classic design produced in limited series.

For an illustration of the original John Schaeffer wristwatch see Brunner, Pfeiffer-Belli & Wehrli, Audemars Piguet, p. 255.
