FIRST EDITION. Bouguer was one of the finest hydrographers of his time and became regius professor of hydrography and navigation at the Royal School of Hydrography at Croisic in lower Brittany. Previously he had been in the service of the French navy gaining years of knowledge and experience he would later utilize for this treatise on navigation. Crone 351.
