Lot Essay

The present lot belongs to a group of three pictures of fruit on ledges, which L. Bol in Goede Onbekenden, 1982, pp. 87/88, dates to the late period of the artist: one in the Walraf-Richartz Museum, Cologne, inv.no. 2689 and the other offered at Sotheby's Monaco, 17 June 1988, lot 862, with col.ill. (photographs in the R.K.D., The Hague). Two of these still lifes might be identified with those mentioned in the inventory of Adriaen Evertsz. van Bleyswijck, drawn up in Delft in 1662, which is mentioned in Bol, op.cit., p. 88. The influence of Ambrosius Bosschaert I is apparent
