A CHINESE-EXPORT CARVED IVORY 'BURMESE' PATTERN CHESS SET
CANTON, FIRST HALF 19TH CENTURY
The kings and queens each with a relief carved face to the pierced crowns, the bishops with mitres carved in relief with clerics' faces to one side of each, the knights as horses' heads, the rooks as turrets with pierced decoration surmounted by flags
The king -- 4¾in. (12cm.) high; the pawn -- 2 7/8in. (7.2cm.) high
