Part of a repeating pattern, the rectangular tile painted in yellow and blue with a central cartouche featuring an inscription surrounded by palmette motifs - 7 1/4in. (18.2cm.) long

Lot Essay

This tile was designed to stand on its corner, and is typical of tiles which were made particularly in Seville in the 16th century and used in restoration work. It may be from a 16th century restoration at the Alhambra or another Mudéjar dwelling that might have formerly been a Nasrid villa
