With two bands of faint engraving at top and bottom of body, fretted denticulations to stepped cover, heart and spray thumbpiece, an indistinct touch possibly by the maker 'W.G.' inside base (O.P.5480)

Lot Essay

For similar see the Worshipful Company Collection Nos. 140 fig 20c, illustrated again in the supplementary catalogue No. 212, p.38. The catalogue attributes this style of thumbpiece to York makers.
A very similar flagon sold in the Holt sale, Phillips of Chester October 1998 lot 35 was by the maker Leonard Terry of York.
