Lot Essay

Little is known of the artist, except that he was based in England, where he painted in the 'rural manner' (see E. Waterhouse, The Dictionary of 18th Century Painters, Suffolk, 1981, p.221), influenced by the likes of Julius Caesar Ibbetson (1759-1817) and George Morland (1762-1804) for whom some of his works have in the past been mistaken.
