Lot Essay

This table illustrates the fashion for historic revivals and the Picturesque, popularised by Ackerman's Repository of the Arts, 1809-28, and others including Richard Bridgens, Anthony Salvin, and A.W.N Pugin, who incorprated elements of Tudor, Elizabethan and Jacobean decoration. See Frances Collard Regency Furniture, Woodbridge, 1985.
