Pierre-Harry Mewesen, maître in 1766. Of Scandinavian origin, Mewesen worked in Paris, rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine until the Revolution, focusing predominantly on Transition and Louis XVI pieces. Mewesen is well-known for his geometric and cube marquetry, as illustrated in the present lot. A closely-related commode was sold from the former Collection of Baron Hottinguer, Christie's, Paris, 2-3 December 2003, lot 73.
