Each of kidney-shape, decorated with floral sprays and garlands, with hinged glazed top enclosing a crimson velvet-lined interior, above a shaped frieze fitted with three drawers, the shaped sides and back decorated with floral sprays and musical attributes, on slightly cabriole legs headed by foliate clasps and terminating in conformingly-cast sabots, stamped 'EDWARDS & ROBERTS'

Lot Essay

The firm of Edwards and Roberts was established in 1845 and was trading as 'Edward and Roberts 21 Wardour Street, Antique and Modern cabinet makers and importers of ancient furniture' by 1854. They were well known for their high quality furniture that revived earlier styles, mostly from the 18th Century, and produced many pieces in the Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. The firm ceased trading in 1899.
