"The 1993 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve has begun to close down, revealing more of the vintage's strong, tannic personality than other top 1993s. The wine's opaque purple color is followed by a promising sweet, smoky, chocolatey, licorice, and blackcurrant-scented nose, and deep, powerful, full-bodied flavors. It is an outstanding wine, but more of a long-term prospect. Beringer's Private Reserves have been among the leading California Cabernet Sauvignons for nearly two decades. An impressive succession of wines has been made during the nineties, and I am sure wealthy collectors will argue for decades as to which vintage is the most complete."
