Lot Essay

The present watch, property of a European lady, is one of the most beautiful and desirable examples of the legendary reference 6236 offered publicly in the last years. Made in 1960, it has preserved an outstandingly original and unspoilt condition, even retaining the original bracelet.

Reference 6236 was the final version of the celebrated Datocompax model. In production between 1958 and 1962, it is easily identifiable by the larger bezel compared to its predecessors. In fact, the case of reference 6236 is made of three elements, the bezel no longer carved from the same block as the centrepiece of the case.

The model is described and illustrated in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 402 - 409.
