Lot Essay

Accompanied by Patek Philippe Certificat d'Origine et de Garantie and original envelope, Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial and applied gold hour markers in 1943 and its subsequent sale on 28 April 1944. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe original invoice dated 3 May 1994 addressed to Monsieur José Mullero, Barcelona and fitted brown leather presentation box.

The present watch can quite comfortably be considered as one of the most attractive gold reference 1526 ever offered at auction - if not the best example known in yellow gold remembered by the market. This reference 1526 is the only example known to exist to feature "Calend. Perpetuel" above the day and month windows. Until today, this unusual designation on this model was only known through 1940's advertisements of Patek Philippe. Probably never used and only with extremely light signs of surface wear, it is of overall very high quality. The case is full and retains its original case proportions to the best extent. The rarity of the present watch is furthermore enhanced by the presence of the original certificate, invoice and box. It has never been offered at auction.

Manufacture of reference 1526 was launched in 1941; according to literature, only 210 examples were made, the majority in yellow gold.

The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, pp. 282 & 283.
