Lot Essay
A stool of similar design forms part of a suite of seat furniture that belonged to Lady Elizabeth Fownes (d. 1778). The suite, which comprised at least five side chairs, a stool and a sofa, was supplied for her town house, 40 Dominick Street, Dublin. The upholstery was by tradition worked by her (see The Knight of Glin and James Peill, Irish Furniture, New Haven and London, 2007, p. 218, cat. 56).
