Lot Essay

The fire of the 'Hof van Frankrijk' (the French Embassy) made a big impression in The Hague. A drawing made by Aert Schouman on location, which is preserved in the Rijksprentenkabinet in Amsterdam, represents the event from another angle (see L.J. Bol, Aart Schouman, Doornspijk, 1991, pp. 66-7).
