Sir Robert and Lady Adeane. Her father was an avid art collector and a trustee of the Tate Gallery and the Artist Placement Group (APG). This background contributed to her interest in art and her support for many artists. In 1967, Rose Adeane and Stan Hardy founded the Hamet Gallery in London. The gallery held exhibitions for various artists, including Paul Nash, William Roberts, John Craxton and Hector McDonnell. McDonnell's first one-man exhibition was held at the Hamet Gallery in 1973. It was very well received and sold out on the first night of its opening. It was in this exhibition that Warner Dailey's Kitchen (lot 139) was first shown and purchased by Rose Adeane. Following the success of the Hamet Gallery exhibition, McDonnell joined Fischer Fine Art Gallery in London, and through them his work was shown in Europe. McDonnell exhibited his work in two shows in Paris, promoting Contemporary International Realism, and subsequently won the Darmstadter Kunstpreis, a celebrated art prize in Germany. As part of this prize, McDonnell was given a major exhibition in Darmstadt: 150 works were exhibited there, including Warner Dailey's Kitchen (lot 139) and Street Musicians (lot 140).
