Lot Essay

'Hansje' goblets were used at gatherings of relatives and friends to discretely announce that one of the ladies present, presumably the hostess, was pregnant. On this goblet 'Hansje' is not depicted in a cellar, but as 'Pudicitia', allegorical of modesty or chastity.
