'J.P. Donleavy, author and playwright of The Ginger Man and numerous other internationally-acclaimed works, began his artistic career in Dublin as a painter ... The watercolours, which have become highly prized, are whimsical, bright of colour, and upbeat, revealing the artist's humour and playfulness that he has exhibited so well in his many books' (see B.
