Lot Essay

A new kind of migration was proposed in the 19th century: a united Welsh colony deliberately retaining the language and culture of the home country. One of the choices for a new colony was in Patagonia, Argentina. The first group of settlers, about one hundred and fifty people gathered from all over Wales, sailed from Liverpool to Patagonia in July 1865. The present work depicts the Patagonian landscape where the community still survives.
