carved on the handle with various initials and dated for '1753', with 8in. long iron index arm, rotating volvelle indistinctly carved for hours twice and subdivided for quarter hours, the main plate indistinctly carved with initials of the months and graduated on the circumference, the underside carved with an eight-point compass rose, the main plate (old wear) -- 4½in.
