Lot Essay

The items in the present lot are the original watercolour drawings by Walter Parry Hodges for the eight aquatints engraved by Henry Alken, Snr. (1785-1851) and published by Thomas McLean, 26 Haymarket, 1 July 1833.

The January 1834 issue of The New Sporting Magazine in reviewing the prints stated that "this is, without exception, the handsomest set of hunting pictures that has ever fallen under our inspection, and we think we may also add - the best ever published".
