Hermitage, La Chapelle--Vintage 1985
Rhône. Domaine-bottled: Paul Jaboulet Aîné
Tasting Notes: Macerated for three weeks. No new wood: 12 to 18 months in two-to three-years-old burgundy barriques. Ten notes, from a spicy tannic two-years old with great future. Warm flesh and richness noted in 1988 and again in 1992. A series of good notes from deep, velvety at Gildleigh Park (1997) - the year that the well-liked Gerard Jaboulet suddenly died; at the Bar Bank tasting (Zurich 1998); elegant, complete, lovely (at Kaplan's '85s event in 2000) and, most recently, at the Primum Familiae Vinum annual dinner: still fairly deep, very fragrant; richly textured, substantial. Nov 2000 **** Lovely now and still with time in hand. M.B.
