Each vase form, set on a circular foot with gadrooned band, the lower body chased with overlapping shells, the shoulder with applied and chased shells, the domed covers with conforming decoration, and baluster and scroll finial, each with a shell-form spoon, with gilt bowl, each vase marked on shoulder, cover bezels, reverse of spoon

Lot Essay

Condiment vases by Paul de Lamerie are rare. This pair of vases is identical to a pair of 1745 sold in These Rooms, October 17, 1996, lot 334. A set of three with spoons of the same models as the present pair were in the collection of J. Pierpont Morgan, sold in These Rooms, October 26, 1982, lot 34.
