Lot Essay
The sculptural quality, the roundness and the fluid lines of this powder compact are very typical of Jean Schlumberger's jewels. He appropriated inspiration from craft forms such as basketry and ribbons (as showcased in this powder compact) as well as shapes and motifs from nature for his designs and left it to the often despairing workshops to execute to Schlumberger's stringent standards.
