Lot Essay

The first signature used by the firm was 'Bulgari' with a 'u', as on this brooch, until the spelling 'Bvlgari' was introduced in the 1930s. The two different versions coexisted, apparently without any preference for either spelling for a while; one can find the 'Bulgari' signature on jewels dated into the early 1950s.
