Aucoc

The Maison Aucoc was founded in 1821 when Casimir Aucoc established a silversmithing business at 154, rue St. Honoré in Paris where he stayed for 14 years until moving to 6, rue de la Paix. By 1854 he had retired and his son, Louis, took over the business, adding jewellery manufacturing to their line of silverware. Casimir's grandson, Louis Aucoc, born in 1850, assumed the leadership of the business in the 1870s. It was under his direction that the talented René Lalique was apprenticed. In 1877 he purchased Maison Lobjois, consolidating the business under the name La Maison Aucoc. They participated in the major international expositions, contributing jewellery in chased gold Art Nouveau styles. In 1900 his younger brother, André, assumed control of the business and the emphasis of the company reverted to silverware.
